Tubal Ligation Reversal

Tubal ligation reversal is a surgical procedure that involves the reconstruction of the fallopian tubes in women (who had sterilisation done previously). It involves removing the blocked part of the fallopian tube and re-joining the ends.

Literature reviews have reported overall intrauterine pregnancy rates between 31% and 92% following the reversal of sterilisation in women.

However, the success rates of female sterilisation reversal vary widely and depend on factors like:

  • Age of the woman
  • Method used for tubal occlusion
  • Method used for tubal re-anastomosis (for example, if your tubes were clipped rather than tied, a successful reversal is more likely)

Also, it is worthwhile to note that reversal of tubal occlusion may enhance the risk of ectopic pregnancy, and there is no guarantee that you will be fertile again (be able to get pregnant).
